Position Overview

The Software Engineer I (Rock RMS Application Developer Level I) is an entry-level software development role focused on supporting and enhancing Rock RMS, a church management system designed to streamline organizational operations and improve engagement. The ideal candidate will assist in the development, customization, and maintenance of Rock RMS plugins and features while providing technical support for Rock RMS implementations. This role requires a strong foundation in software development, problem-solving skills, and a passion for leveraging technology to serve the needs of the church. 

What you'll do: 

Development & Customization

  • Assist in designing, testing, deploying custom plugins, workflows, and integrations for Rock RMS
  • Modify existing Rock RMS features to align with our organizational requirements and user feedback

Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Rock RMS functionality, performance, and integrations
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and end-users to address technical needs and improve user experiences

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Director of Rock RMS Application Development and other team members to ensure projects align with organizational goals
  • Document development processes, code changes, and technical solutions

Learning & Growth

  • Stay current on updates to Rock RMS and related technologies to ensure implementations leverage best practices
  • Continuously improve technical skills by participating in training, online courses, or certifications related to Rock RMS and software development

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Foundational knowledge of Rock RMS or similar church management systems
  • Experience with software development languages and frameworks such as C#, .NET, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and SQL. 
  • Understanding of REST APIs and web services
  • Ability to work in an Agile/Scrum development environment
  • Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Rock RMS customization, Lava, and Workflow creation
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or other cloud services
  • Knowledge of modern source control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Previous experience working with faith-based organizations or non-profits is a plus
